Don’t fall for them!
1. Stats Are Only for Better Players
Wrong! Many golfers believe that stats are only useful for advanced players or professionals. In truth, tracking stats is beneficial for golfers of all skill levels. Even beginners can learn a lot from understanding where they’re losing strokes. For example, if a beginner consistently misses greens in regulation, they may need to focus on their approach shots rather than their short game. Stats provide clarity and help golfers identify areas for focused improvement, regardless of their handicap.
2. Fairways, Greens, and Putts are Enough
Wrong! Just tracking your fairways, greens, and putts is outdated and even misleading. Every shot in golf is connected to the last and the next. Just keeping track of fairways ignores risk/reward decisions that might put you in the rough or sand. Looking at greens in regulation ignores how close you hit it to the hole. 10 feet from off the green might be preferred to 65 feet on the green! Good shots that miss the green shouldn’t be punished immediately. Lastly, the total number of putts in a round is one of the most misleading stats you can keep. The number of putts in a round is determined by how many greens you hit. And… as we just learned, looking just at GIR does not provide a full picture. Would you rather shoot 72 with 36 putts or 76 with 29 putts? Fewer putts ≠ better scores.
3. I don’t play enough to track my stats
True…and False! It is true that more data is better, but because a single golf round includes so many shots, even just 1 round entered in the app can be insightful. In your first round with Accel Golf, you might notice things you never thought of before. Beginners can dramatically benefit by seeing an objective analysis of their round. After only 3-5 rounds in Accel Golf, trends start to emerge that can inform your long-term plan to improve.
4. I don’t have time to log my stats
True! However, with Accel Golf’s photo round entry, logging your stats after your round only takes a minute. Other platforms make you re-enter everything in the app or online. But with Accel Golf, your stats can be entered in an instant by taking a picture.
